Sources said that the railway track has been badly damaged in the accident.
On July 13, top railway officials had inspected the Narkhed railway track and okayed it. Traffic on the Narkhed route started in July and within two months the accident took place. The exact reason behind the derailment is yet to be ascertained.
However, question marks are being raised over the quality of inspection which was carried out in July. Safety commissioner Chetan Bakshi, divisional railway manager of Central Railway Nagpur division and DRM of Bhusawal division had inspected the track after which traffic was opened on the route.
Speaking to TOI, Sunil Bhalerao, member of Divisional Railway Consultative Committee, Bhusawal division, said, "A derailment within two months of throwing open a route shows the quality of the track. The quality of track was indeed substandard, otherwise how can a track give in so soon. No doubts, the derailment has caused great loss to the railways."
"Theft of key components on railway track have already dented railways' coffers. MP Anand Adsul had informed the railways about the theft and had raised question mark over the quality of work of Narkhed railway line and the model railway station.
Adsul had even demanded an in-depth inquiry of track laying work and model railway station through vigilance committee, but the railway officials maintained that the work was good and they even felicitated the engineers for their good job," said Bhalerao, who is the PA of Adsul.
